Talking The Power of Spirit Spamming!!

Due to some amazing confluence of the stars, etc., my RA team went 27 wins, the vast majority of which were flawless. Then I had to go to bed.

Interestingly enough, our 24th victim was iQ. It was on the lava map. We knew it was iQ because a while into our fight my excited teammate screamed, "zomg it's iQ!" and sure enough, all 4 had iQ tags. The fight ended 5 over 2. They ran a shock W/E and a A/W with Frenzy for damage. So perhaps expect to see that setup in GvG?

I'm kinda dumbfounded about why we did so good, because to tell you the truth our monk's build was crap. He had Healing Hands and Healing Breeze...'nuff said. However we had a hardcore interrupt mesmer with Migraine and 4 interrupts, and a decent R/W with a pet. He's melee but I don't know what weapon. I myself was the spirit spammer, with Oathshot, Pain, Shadowsong, Bloodsong, and Recuperation, which helped tremendously with the +3 regen to all. Since my teammates builds were nothing to write home about, or at least, nothing really new, I'm forced to conclude that I was the deciding factor. All I did was spam spirits non-stop, sometimes even overriding existing ones. We wore down multiple 2-monk teams, and teams with monk and ritualist, who sadly can't out-spam me.

And oh, you do get 2 points toward your title if you win 20 in a row. I'm sure many RA teams have done better than us, so don't consider this bragging. I'm mainly excited about the power of spirit spamming.

it was probably a bunny thumper, in other words: with a hammer.

Spirit spamming is quite hard to combat i have found - my tactics is run in, spike someone and run away again.
Just prot up run in spike with whatever you have the retreat.
My idea build in Ta is an Axe warrior and an Air ele spiking along with a surge mesmer with blackout to shut down monks during the spikes and then a basic boon prot. Last night to i played boon prot for some fast casting m/e air spikers from a guild called Mimo - they were R7-8's and not bad on the spikes but we did run into a few spirit spammers and the spike and run tactic was the most effective. Mass spirits is very effective - i like the oath shot - nice touch.
I think it is a build we will see in Ta a lot soon.

yes true - but they just dont realise that it is not about the build - just about how you play it

Actually... spirit spamming is easy to stop. Just slap the mesmer or interrupt ranger on the spammer, or just make the spammer the teams first target. This will work if the spammer is unskilled, b/c skilled spammers are VERy VeRY tricky. I love playing spammer in HoH and teams used to be able to shut me down pretty quickly untill I got more and more experience... I have devised many little tricks for many different situations so that the other team is wasteing their time on me. Just as an example once in an HoH match we were holding on an altar match and the other team needed to take me out so they stuck a interrupt/diversion mesmer on me. We'll for about 2-3 min I couldn't do a darn thing till I decided to out smart him. I saw he interrupted every spirit I had flawlessly. B/c of this I began casting sprits that weren't needed at the time like Frozen Soil and Primal Echos. Instintively he interrupted them both and while his skills were recharging I went on casting the important spirits... IE Fertile Season and Symbiosis for holding. It was the difference between winning and losing. Also... there is the obvious infinite Whirling Defense when using oath shot. Small things like that are the difference between a good spammer and a bad one. Also... a team should never rely solely on the spammer to be effective b/c what happens if the spammer dies?

But overall I wouldn't say spirit spammers are hard to stop, I would say teams w/ spirit spammers are hard to stop if you don't stop their spammer.

Can't people have someone run Consume Soul? It would kill faster than the person can spam.

this is quite interresting, I had almost the same team in RA, though the bunnythumper was an Axe/shock in our case. and I was boon. We had 12 flawless, then the mesmer had to leave. it seems to work very well

Against a baby sitting interrupter, all you have to do is press the skill and press cancel key (esc), and watch that guy wasting his/her interrupt 2~3 times after you repeat the step. Some are dumb enough to get trick the entire game.

You can assure the interrupter will think twice before interrupting, and hence, slower interrupt reaction time.

Personally, I believe shadowsong is the one single most annoying spirit there is. As most TA RA team rely on warrior or ranger to do some serious damage, and this thing just shut them down without help (except out of range). What they need to do is run far and have the shadowsong spirit jump their monk or etc, then let you melee do his/her prime. However, that came hopeless as you even oath shot and replace the old one regardless... so, they can't do much about it, aside praying for more caster on their team.

All those times you cancel the skill, you'll be wasting energy. GG

sometimes the skill cancel thing works wonders, especially if you are getting camped by knockdowns... example:

I was playing a 105 bonder with Unyielding Aura in random arena because I was very, very, very bored, and the enemy team couldn't break through my enchants, and I had 2 teammates left. However, they had a hammer warrior that would knock me down whenever he saw my trying to res. So I starting casting the unyielding then canceled it until the hammer war used his "lose all adren" knockdown, then started ressing. We won that match, and its all because of that one trick.

Warriors use Healing Sig as bait.. if you don't have a Signet to use as bait.. find a 5 energy skill!

I think it's better to lure the interrupter (most times interrupters are trigger happy and will try to interrupt you, even if you timed your cancel badly! ), then to be interrupted and suffer the consequence.
